Signal adds support for linking multiple smartphones to a single account

Signal’s latest update enables the linking of multiple smartphones—both Android and iOS—to a single account, complementing its earlier support for desktop and tablet clients. With the new functionality, messages can be accessed and answered across all connected devices, and users can decide if historic encrypted conversations are transferred to each phone, reducing risk if a device is lost or compromised. The rollout arrives in version 8.20 for Android and 8.22 for iPhone and iPad, and includes significant UI improvements aimed at larger displays and foldable phones, which also paved the way for Android tablet support.

The company acknowledges that the large-screen Android app remains a work in progress and that it is still optimizing the experience on Chromebooks. These changes broaden Signal’s multi-device ecosystem while maintaining its end-to-end encryption guarantees.
