Sionna Therapeutics halts CF add-on pill after Phase 2 setback
Sionna Therapeutics announced that its experimental cystic fibrosis pill, SION-719, failed to show benefit when combined with Vertex’s Trikafta in a Phase 2 study and will not be pursued further.
The biotech disclosed that the mid-stage trial of SION-719 added to Trikafta did not produce any measurable improvement for patients. Consequently, the company will drop plans to develop the drug as an adjunct therapy for cystic fibrosis. In the same statement, Sionna hinted at possible workforce reductions while it reassesses its financial strategy. The setback comes as the firm, founded in 2019—the year Trikafta entered the market—faces a critical juncture.
