Six Flags Great Adventure to debut 382-foot coaster breaking six world records

Six Flags Great Adventure unveiled a new coaster named Bakunawa, drawing its name from a mythic Philippine sea serpent. Standing 382 feet tall and reaching speeds of up to 100 miles per hour, the ride will span 3,163 feet of track and incorporate three launch sections, one of which will be the world’s first upside-down launch. Riders will board floorless, free-spinning trains that rotate throughout the experience, creating a unique ride each time.

According to park president Mike Fehnel, the coaster will climb a 90-degree vertical tower before descending, and the experience will be repeated in reverse. The park claims Bakunawa will set six world records, including fastest and tallest spinning coaster, fastest inversion, longest stall inversion, first floorless spinning coaster, and first upside-down launch. It will serve as the centerpiece of a redesigned Boardwalk area, with two 20-seat trains, a 48-inch height requirement, and a ride duration of about two minutes and 17 seconds. The attraction is targeted for a 2027 debut.
