Skeletal remains of 57-year-old woman discovered in Bengaluru home after years of isolation

Authorities recovered the skeletal remains of Dakshayini, a 57-year-old woman from Saundatti taluk, Belagavi district, at her residence in Havanur Layout, Bengaluru. Her brother, Mahesh Basappa, confirmed her identity after being notified on August 7, noting she had been living alone following her husband's death in 2017. Dakshayini's mental health deteriorated after her son died in 2005, leading to a schizophrenia diagnosis and treatment in Bengaluru and Shivamogga, including a four-month stint at a rehabilitation centre.
She had not communicated with relatives for roughly two years before the discovery. The Bagalgunte police station has registered an unnatural death report under Section 194 of the BNSS and initiated further investigation.
