South Korean Fair Trade Commission to audit wedding service pricing next month

The Fair Trade Commission announced inspections of wedding planners beginning next month to enforce new pricing disclosure rules.

The Fair Trade Commission disclosed that it will commence inspections of wedding-planning businesses in South Korea starting next month, targeting compliance with a pricing-transparency law introduced in November 2025. Under the regulation, planners must publish detailed fees, cancellation policies and refund procedures for each affiliated provider, including photography, dress and makeup studios, on their own websites or the Korea Consumer Agency portal.

The commission noted that a significant number of firms have yet to meet these obligations, prompting the upcoming audits. Companies found lacking could be penalised with fines reaching 100 million won (about US$69,100). The FTC said the effort is intended to help couples make informed budgeting decisions by ensuring full access to cost information. The inspections will focus on whether the required details are available online and will enforce the new standards across the sector.

Why it matters

Ensuring transparent wedding costs protects consumers from hidden fees and promotes fair competition in the industry.
