Southport child murderer faces four new prison assault and weapons charges
Axel Rudakubana, serving a life term for the 2024 Southport child killings, has been charged with four offences committed at HMP Belmarsh, including assaults on emergency workers and illegal weapon possession.
Axel Rudakubana, the 19-year-old who killed three children and injured ten others during a Taylor-Swift-themed dance class in Southport in July 2024, now faces four additional charges stemming from incidents at HMP Belmarsh between May and October 2025. The alleged offences comprise assault on an emergency worker on 6 May, attempted grievous bodily harm on 8 May, unauthorised possession of an offensive weapon on 26 June, and a second assault on an emergency worker on 28 October.
Rudakubana was sentenced to life imprisonment in January 2025 and was moved to a secure psychiatric hospital earlier this month. He is set to appear remotely before Westminster Magistrates' Court on 11 September. The new allegations add to the severity of his original crimes, which claimed the lives of Elsie Dot Stancombe, Bebe King and Alice da Silva Aguiar and left eight children and two adults injured. Authorities are highlighting the incident as a reminder of security and disciplinary challenges within high-security prisons.
