Spanish Civil Guard flags possible fresh migrant surge toward Ceuta

Spain’s Civil Guard released a preliminary report warning that a coordinated attempt by illegal migrants to reach Ceuta may occur soon, specifically targeting August 15. The agency’s analysis, derived from a large volume of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp messages, identified repeated calls for a mass mobilization and phrases suggesting a coordinated effort. While the exact magnitude of the potential influx is uncertain, the Guard highlighted that the messaging appears genuine and not isolated, reaching a broad audience.

Investigators have been unable to pinpoint the original sources or any hierarchical command structure, and they found no definitive link to the Moroccan government. Nonetheless, they acknowledge that involvement by human-trafficking groups is plausible, though not proven as the sole driver. The warning follows a recent episode in which tens of thousands of migrants entered Ceuta, overwhelming the city’s population of about 87,000.
