Spider-Man: Brand New Day Sets New Opening Record for Foreign Film in India

Sony's latest Spider-Man movie opened in India with the biggest first-day earnings ever for a non-Indian film, overtaking Avengers: Endgame.

Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day broke Indian box-office history by delivering the largest opening for a foreign film, surpassing the previous benchmark set by Avengers: Endgame. The opening day generated INR 72.44 crore ($7.6 million) and attracted nearly one million cinema-goers. During the weekend, the movie earned over INR 135 crore ($14.1 million) on the PVR Inox chain alone, with attendance approaching three million and an average occupancy of 60%.

Across 17,250 screens, the four-day total climbed to INR 328.5 crore ($34.4 million), ranking it as the fourth-highest-grossing Hollywood title in India. Strong demand was recorded in metros and Tier II-III cities, with the Hindi dub reaching 95% occupancy on about 7,000 shows, while the English version held 55% on 8,000 shows. Bengaluru contributed the largest share of city-level revenue, followed by Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi, underscoring the film’s broad regional appeal.
