During St Helens' 38-16 defeat by Wigan Warriors, prop George Delaney sustained a shoulder injury that required surgical repair this week. The 22-year-old, who has appeared in 20 games and crossed for two tries, will now miss the balance of the 2026 Super League season. Delaney posted a photo of his arm in a sling on Instagram, describing the operation as a “gutted” end to his season and outlining the months of rehab ahead.
He was one of three Saints players withdrawn in that match, alongside Jed Cartwright (quad) and Matty Evans (failed HIA). St Helens sit seventh, level on points with Hull KR, and are aiming to avoid missing the playoffs for the first time in club history. Head coach Paul Rowley recently stepped down, leaving assistant Eamon O'Carroll to lead the side against York Knights at the LNER Stadium.
