Staten Island activist Scott LoBaido collapses after confronting Mayor Mamdani at police rally

Artist and activist Scott LoBaido suffered cardiac arrest when he tried to approach Mayor Zohran Mamdani during a pro-police event in Staten Island.

At a National Night Out event hosted by the NYPD’s 43rd Patrol Borough on Staten Island, artist and activist Scott LoBaido tried to confront Mayor Zohran Mamdani after the mayor’s brief remarks were met with boos. Police held LoBaido back, and he later said he felt ill, collapsing on the boardwalk. A witness said emergency personnel quickly administered CPR and a defibrillator, restoring his breathing.

He was given oxygen and taken by ambulance to Staten Island University Hospital, where officials listed him as critical but stable. LoBaido, 61, posted a photo from the hospital on social media later that night. The incident follows a series of provocative stunts by the artist, including previous arrests and public displays targeting political figures.
