Strategist claims legal tricks could let Trump sidestep the 22nd Amendment

Rick Wilson explained that a coalition of politicians, policy researchers and legal activists is attempting to craft a legal rationale that would nullify the 22nd Amendment, arguing that the 2020 election was illegitimate. He suggested this line of thinking underpins Donald Trump’s recent primetime address, in which Trump alleged a Chinese operation stole hundreds of millions of voter records and used the platform to push his SAVE America voter-ID legislation.

Media outlets such as one outlet have described Trump’s allegations as exaggerated, while the several outlets note there is no credible evidence of foreign interference that altered the 2020 vote. Former intelligence officials, including Sue Gordon, have labeled the president’s statements as dangerous. Wilson, a co-founder of the Lincoln Project, warned that this “legal framework” could be used to justify a third presidential bid.
