The complainant alleges Shabbaz warned her against speaking to other men, then grabbed her forearm when she attempted to record the dispute, causing a small scratch, and later tried to take her phone.
Police obtained security footage from the vessel’s owner that they say does not align with Shabbaz’s statements to officers. After posting a $2,500 bond, Shabbaz was released and is set to return to court on August 4. His lawyer, Richard L. Cooper, told reporters the charges will likely be dropped, though no official decision has been announced. The case remains open, and no verdict has been reached.
