Streamer Hasan Piker Defends Provocative Claim That Hamas Outshines Israel

Hasan Piker says his comparison of Hamas to Israel was deliberately provocative and he continues to stand by it despite criticism.

In one outlet's interview, far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker explained that calling Hamas "a thousand times better than the fascist settler colonial apartheid state" of Israel was an intentionally inflammatory tactic to force listeners to rethink the conflict. He said the hyperbole serves as a performance to reach a broader audience, noting he would not simply label Israel "worse" because that is a common refrain.

Piker has reiterated the claim in an X post from January, on the Pod Save America podcast, and during a recent one outlet's interview, where he affirmed Palestinians' right to armed resistance while condemning Hamas' war crimes. The Anti-Defamation League denounced his statements as support for a designated terrorist organization, and Democratic Party figures have faced criticism for their silence. Piker dismissed the backlash as "having the correct position too early" and said he will not soften his language.
