On Sunday, Sudanese army drones targeted a traditional court in the village of Garra al-Zawaya in North Darfur, killing 35 people and wounding several others, according to the Emergency Lawyers group. The strike occurred at about 1 pm local time while community members were attending hearings on local cases and disputes. Among those killed were four tribal leaders and two commanders from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which currently controls the village.
The court building, used for resolving tribal feuds, suffered damage in the attack. The incident adds to a conflict that began in April 2023 and has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and a massive humanitarian crisis across Sudan.
