Suisun City declares emergency after ransomware disables 911 and municipal networks
A cyberattack forced Suisun City to shut down its entire computer system, prompting officials to declare a state of emergency.
Around 5:45 a.m. on Friday, a malicious code breached Suisun City's computer network, taking down critical services such as 911 call routing and municipal dispatch. In response, city officials disabled the entire network to halt the spread and safeguard data for investigators. The city council convened a special meeting on Saturday and unanimously declared a state of emergency under Government Code 8630, enabling faster aid and cost recovery.
Emergency crews continue operating, with calls now handled by the Solano County dispatch center. Federal agencies including the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and the California Office of Emergency Services have been enlisted to determine the attack's origin. The disruption also halted access to city records and other online services, though officials say residents face no immediate danger.
