Supreme Court grants week-long interim bail to TMC aide in Salboni land case
The Supreme Court approved a seven-day interim bail for Sumit Roy, personal assistant to TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee, while ordering him to appear at the investigating police station without a lawyer.
In a hearing in New Delhi, the apex court stayed the arrest of Sumit Roy for one week, allowing him to remain free until the next date. Roy, who works for Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, was linked to the Salboni land-grabbing investigation after former MLA Sujoy Hazra mentioned his name. The court directed Roy to report personally to the police station concerned, but without any advocate or companion.
An FIR had been filed against him following Hazra's June arrest for allegedly converting government land into private property. The bench also issued a notice to the Bengal government on Roy's petition.
