Surveillance captures street attack in Sydney as bystanders call for help

A nighttime disturbance on Coogee Bay Road in Sydney’s east resulted in a 41-year-old man being hospitalized after a physical confrontation captured on security cameras. The video shows a younger individual in a white shirt slapping the older man, who then attempts to shield himself before collapsing onto the street. Bystanders quickly moved to roll the victim onto his side, one woman repeatedly demanding that someone call an ambulance.

Police from the Eastern Beaches Police Area Command arrived, arrested a 26-year-old suspect at the location and transferred him to Maroubra Police Station. He was subsequently charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and denied bail pending a court appearance. Paramedics provided on-scene care before transporting the victim to Prince of Wales Hospital for further treatment.
