Suspect flees Eustis traffic stop with officer trapped inside vehicle
During a routine stop in Eustis, Florida, a driver fled the scene with a police officer still inside his car, dragging a second officer along the road.
Early Saturday morning in Eustis, Florida, officers stopped a silver Infiniti driven by 28-year-old Shakoi Donovan after observing the car cross a lane line. When the suspect refused to exit, officers opened the door and attempted to pull him from the running vehicle. At that moment, Donovan accelerated, carrying an officer trapped on the driver’s side and dragging a second officer roughly 10 to 15 feet along S. Eustis Street, causing the latter to tumble and be injured.
Body-camera video recorded the chaotic chase and the officers’ attempts to intervene. The suspect has a prior record that includes aggravated assault, burglary and battery charges. He now faces charges such as attempted murder of a law-enforcement officer, aggravated battery on an officer and violent resistance, and remains in custody pending a court date on Aug. 24.
