On Saturday, Tamil Nadu agriculture minister R Vinoth visited the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple and held a document described as the “budget preface” before seeking the deity’s blessings. The minister is slated to introduce the state’s inaugural agriculture budget in the assembly on Aug. 6. Vinoth clarified that the full budget remains with the department secretary and that his copy contained only summary highlights.
Critics, including opposition MP Su Venkatesan and CPI state secretary M Veerapandian, labeled the gesture unconstitutional and a breach of protocol. The AIADMK demanded clarification on whether the untabled document violated assembly conventions. A senior official reminded that budget materials are typically confidential until formally presented, and the speaker will determine if any privilege breach occurred.
