Tasmanian constable resigns after alleged affair and info leak to suspect

A probationary Tasmania Police constable quit after a professional standards probe found she breached sixteen service rules by maintaining contact with a man under criminal investigation and sharing police information.

Tasmania Police learned in January 2025 that a probationary constable had started a relationship with a person under active investigation and was told by an inspector to block his number and end all contact. Evidence later showed she traveled with the man between Launceston and Hobart, kept in touch via Instagram, and allegedly viewed and disclosed police intelligence about him. A professional standards inquiry documented sixteen breaches of the Police Service Act, ranging from conflict of interest to lack of integrity, and forwarded the findings to the Integrity Commission.

Assistant Commissioner Adrian Bodnar criticized the officer's account as self-serving and untrue. The constable submitted her resignation before the investigation concluded, and the police confirmed the breaches but said no criminal offence was identified. The reprimand will be recorded on her conduct history, potentially affecting future career prospects.
