Teen Cricketer in Nagpur Takes Own Life After Missing Team Selection
A 17-year-old aspiring cricketer from Nagpur died by suicide after learning she was not chosen for a higher-level team, leaving a note expressing her disappointment.
Aditi Chaukhande, a 17-year-old aspiring female cricketer residing in Nagpur with her mother and elder brother, was discovered dead on Wednesday night, apparently by suicide. The teenager had just passed her Class 12 examinations and was training in cricket alongside her brother Prabal, who is also an emerging player. Police say she became distressed after not being selected for a higher-level team, a disappointment she detailed in a note found in her room, expressing sadness and a wish to honor her parents.
The note read, “Dada, you play so well… I am sad I couldn’t be selected.” Senior Inspector Chetan Chauhan described the incident as a drastic step taken due to the selection setback and has registered an accidental death case while continuing the investigation. The family includes her father, a civil contractor in Akola, and her brother, who was out of town at the time.
