Teen dies after transport vehicle stranded in mud for hours in Rajouri

A 17-year-old resident of Methyani village died while being transported to Government Medical College, Rajouri, after the vehicle carrying her was immobilized by a mudslide on the Chak Methyani-Panglar-Kotecharwal road for almost three hours. The girl had been ill for about a month and had previously been hospitalized in Jammu before being discharged two weeks earlier. Volunteers managed to pull the vehicle free, but her health deteriorated and she passed away en route to the hospital.

The road, the sole access route for nearby villages, was washed away during last year’s monsoon and only temporarily restored; a similar slide two weeks prior left it impassable. An ADC report described the stretch as being in extremely poor condition, hindering transport of patients and essential goods. In response, the district development commissioner suspended the assistant executive engineer overseeing the project and ordered a detailed inquiry within seven days.
