Teen girls assault former German police officer in Broome, police response criticised

Sina, a former German police officer on a working holiday visa, and a friend were riding through Broome when five teenage girls confronted them, shouting and then running toward them with sticks and stones. The youths pursued the pair through a park, threw balls, a basket and other objects at them, and tried to damage their bicycles while one filmed the attack. Both women sustained bruises, bleeding and scratches on their knees, stomach and back, but managed to escape after reaching a dead end.

When they contacted Broome police, they were told the case was unlikely to proceed because Sina was about to leave Australia and the assailants were under 16, a response the victim described as lazy. She said the experience left her feeling unsafe and wary of further attacks. A Western Australia Police spokesperson confirmed an investigation is ongoing but declined to provide additional details.
