Teen killed by brother in Uttar Pradesh after family opposed her romance

Investigators report that Sumatra, a 17-year-old from Bajehra village, was murdered by her elder brother Komal Yadav, 22, using a heavy curved blade known locally as a banka. The fatal assault happened around 7 a.m. on Saturday after a heated argument about her relationship with Anurag Yadav, a fellow villager, escalated into violence. After being rescued by police and returned to her family, Sumatra attempted to flee the house; Komal pursued her, struck her multiple times, and the injuries caused her death at the scene.

Their mother, Ramrani, said she had tried to intervene and asked her son to leave, but he returned enraged and continued the assault. The body was taken for post-mortem, and a forensic team secured the site. Additional Superintendent of Police (South) Durgesh Singh confirmed the motive as familial opposition to the romance and announced multiple police teams are searching for the absconding brother.
