Teen on e-scooter seriously injured after Las Vegas school bus collision
A school bus traveling near 40 mph struck a 17-year-old girl on an e-scooter in Las Vegas, leaving her with elbow and wrist injuries that required surgery.
Footage captured on Jan. 12 shows a school bus moving at almost 40 mph on Tenaya Way in western Las Vegas as it crossed Lake Mead Boulevard. Two teenagers on e-scooters exited a nearby plaza and entered the bike lane; one was struck by the bus and thrown onto the roadway. The 17-year-old sustained serious injuries to her elbow and wrist that required operative care.
The Clark County School District agreed to cover her medical expenses with a $200,000 settlement. Police data reveal more than 140 e-scooter crashes involving children under 18 in the county between August 2025 and May 2026. Lt. Michael Campbell urged parents to enforce helmet use, speed limits, and to keep non-pedal scooters off public roads.
