Teenage girl's remains exhumed in Aligarh after community raises doubts

Authorities in Aligarh dug up the body of a 16-year-old girl 52 days after burial following a local resident’s complaint about suspicious circumstances.

In Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, the body of a 16-year-old girl was unearthed from Shah Jamal graveyard more than seven weeks after her interment. The move came after Dularay Khan, a local resident, reported hearing screams on the morning of June 8 and later learning that the girl had died unexpectedly and was buried before sunrise. Khan said he alerted police but received no response and was later threatened for pursuing the matter.

He escalated the issue to District Magistrate Avinash Kumar, prompting the district administration to order a new investigation. City Magistrate Atul Gupta, along with police and other officials, supervised the exhumation, after which the remains were dispatched for a post-mortem examination. Police have now launched a detailed probe based on the newly obtained evidence.
