Tejaswin Shankar clinches historic Commonwealth decathlon bronze despite knee injury

Tejaswin Shankar overcame a long-standing jumper's knee to finish third in the men's decathlon at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, scoring 7,976 points. The 27-year-old had to pull out of the high jump event after his opening attempt triggered a flare-up of chronic patellar tendinitis. His bronze medal represents India's first ever podium finish in the decathlon at the Games.

Shankar trailed Grenada's Lindon Victor, who won gold with 8,096 points, and Canada's Damian Warner, who claimed silver with 8,036 points. The result adds to Shankar's previous Commonwealth bronze in high jump at Birmingham 2022 and a silver medal from the 2023 Asian Games decathlon. He expressed a desire to recover fully and target gold at the next Asian Games.
