Three Lake Biwa fireworks shows called off, leaving ticket holders and towns confused
A planned simultaneous fireworks display in three Shiga cities was abruptly cancelled, puzzling ticket purchasers and local officials.
An unnamed group promoted a three-city fireworks festival around Lake Biwa, promising more than 10,000 fireworks for August 22 and selling reserved seats ranging from 6,000 to 18,000 yen. The event’s website posted a cancellation notice this weekend, blaming difficulties in preparation and organization. Municipalities in Hikone, Nagahama and Takashima each clarified on their official sites that they had no role in the event and had only provided procedural guidance after a representative visited in December.
Shiga Prefecture’s government similarly reported a lack of follow-up since an inquiry in April. Ticket buyers and prospective vendors are now left without answers, as the organizers say they will seek legal advice before responding to inquiries.
