Three motorists rescued after their cars became trapped in South Australian floodwaters
Three people were saved after their vehicles were swept into floodwater at a Hillier intersection during heavy rains in South Australia.
A weekend of heavy rainfall set new August records in towns such as Lenswood and Coromandel East, leading to widespread road closures across South Australia. The State Emergency Service recorded more than 530 requests for help, mainly flood-related incidents in Adelaide's northern suburbs. At around 4.50 am on Monday, police were alerted to a vehicle trapped at the intersection of Wingate and Winzor Roads in Hillier.
Two occupants managed to exit their car via the windows and reach safety, while a second car later entered the water and its driver was also rescued by police. Both cars were carried away by the floodwaters, but no one was injured.
