Three Republican attorneys general subpoena Dr. Anthony Fauci over pandemic-related awards

Attorney generals James Uthmeier of Florida, John McCuskey of West Virginia and Liz Murrill of Louisiana have jointly subpoenaed Dr. Anthony Fauci to obtain documents related to various awards and financial benefits he received while issuing COVID-19 guidance. The investigation examines whether Fauci’s personal gain from such awards, including a roughly $900,000 Dan David Foundation prize and a National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases grant to the University of Florida Scripps Biomedical Research program, may have breached Florida law.

Uthmeier emphasized that official immunity does not protect personal profit derived from official actions. The subpoena was inspired by a diary published by Senator Rand Paul, which listed numerous professional opportunities tied to Fauci’s federal role. Additional items sought include named professorships, book contracts, board seats and private foundation partnerships that coincided with his public recommendations affecting Florida businesses and consumers.
