TMC lawmakers allege BJP-backed stone attack on Mamata Banerjee's car

TMC MPs Kalyan Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee claim a BJP-linked mob hurled stones at Mamata Banerjee’s vehicle in North 24 Parganas, accusing the state police of inaction.

While traveling to console the relatives of a TMC worker who allegedly died while in police custody, Mamata Banerjee’s vehicle was attacked in North 24 Parganas with stones and half-bricks, according to TMC MPs Kalyan Banerjee and Dola Sen who were with her. The lawmakers accused hundreds of BJP workers of carrying out the assault and alleged that police stood by without intervening. Kalyan Banerjee labeled the episode an "attempt to murder" and suggested that West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari had ordered the attack.

Abhishek Banerjee called the event evidence of escalating political violence and a failure of governance. The BJP’s state president Samik Bhattacharya rejected the accusations, stating the party had no connection to the incident and urging police action against the perpetrators. State minister Agnimitra Paul also condemned the violence, emphasizing that no political group should target a woman leader.
