Toddler who survived near-drowning dies after life support withdrawn

On Memorial Day, two-year-old Annelise Camp wandered into a Houston hotel swimming pool without her life jacket and was found unresponsive at the bottom by a cousin. She was airlifted to Texas Children’s Hospital, where she was placed on a ventilator for roughly ten weeks. Hospital physicians later assessed her as brain-dead, leading her parents, Johnston and Joy Camp, to file a lawsuit to maintain life-support based on their religious convictions.

The hospital maintained that there were no imminent plans to discontinue care, but eventually the machines were turned off, resulting in Annelise’s death on Monday. The family posted a tribute on a GoFundMe page, expressing faith and hope that her story will inspire others. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday to honor the child.
