Tottenham manager urges England right-back Djed Spence to remain amid transfer speculation
Roberto de Zerbi has asked Djed Spence to stay at Tottenham, despite rumors linking the defender with Inter Milan and Everton.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto de Zerbi told Djed Spence that he would welcome the defender’s decision to stay, but respects any wish to leave. Spence, who signed a long-term contract last year and featured in 23 of 30 league games, is being linked with moves to Inter Milan and Everton as Spurs overhaul their squad after a narrow escape from relegation. The club has already broken its transfer record twice this summer, bringing in Pedro Porro, Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali, Jan Paul van Hecke and several free agents.
De Zerbi praised Porro as world-class in the right-back role, meaning Spence will have to fight for minutes. The manager also confirmed ongoing talks for an attacking signing, specifically Brazilian forward Savinho, while other names such as Bradley Barcola and Victor Osimhen are being mentioned in speculation. He described his summer activity as that of a “shark” and said the transfer window is far from closed.
