Toxic sulphur fire forces evacuation near Port Adelaide's Moonta Road
A blaze involving sulphur at a Port Adelaide building prompted authorities to order a one-kilometre evacuation zone due to hazardous smoke.
Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Moonta Road that was burning sulphur and generating dense, toxic fumes. Emergency crews warned anyone within a kilometre to leave the area as the smoke drifted south-south-east. The SA Metropolitan Fire Service deployed about 15 appliances, including aerial and HAZMAT units. One individual was transported to the Royal Adelaide Hospital by the SA Ambulance Service. Officials continue to monitor the situation and advise the public to avoid the affected zone.
