Trans French star Julie Tetart says she would consider a WNBA offer

Julie Tetart, a 6-foot-3 French transgender basketball center now with Monaco, said via Instagram messages that a WNBA approach would be welcomed, but she is realistic about her age and the depth of talent in the league. She framed the opportunity as a lifelong aspiration that is probably out of reach. When asked about Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham’s remarks on protecting young female athletes from biological men, Tetart replied with a single French word meaning “none.”

During the 2025-26 season, Tetart dominated France’s second-tier Ligue 2, leading in scoring and rebounding and collecting Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Domestic Player of the Year awards while posting 21.2 points, 20.2 rebounds and two assists per game. Cunningham’s comments have ignited debate within the WNBA about trans athlete participation, prompting protests at Fever games and policy changes by the WTA regarding genetic testing. Tetart did not elaborate further on her potential move to the United States.
