Trans-Pregnancy Short Film 'Aman' Gains High-Profile Producers for Toronto Debut

Writer-director Rahul Roye’s new short, “Aman,” follows a trans man who learns he is pregnant on the eve of his gender-affirming operation, confronting entrenched ideas of gender and reproduction. The film has attracted veteran Indian director Nikkhil Advani and Berlinale-selected Dominique Welinski as executive producers, alongside Stephen Harmaty, bringing mainstream industry clout to the project. Produced by Awedacious Originals, Aymara Films, Lotus Visual Productions and others, the UK-US-India-France co-production is shot in Hindi and Bengali and stars Kabir Maan in his debut role, with Sirat Taneja and other trans-community figures in the cast.

All cast and crew are required to identify as queer or be active allies. “Aman” will premiere in the Short Cuts competition at the Toronto Film Festival, running Sept. 10-20, and is supported by the Sumitra Gupta Foundation for the Arts and the Kashish Q Drishti Film Grant.
