Trent McDuffie reflects on surprise Chiefs trade and fresh start with Rams

He recounted the surprise and anger of discovering the trade through a group chat and a sudden visit from his fiancée and mother, noting the Chiefs had previously assured him an extension was forthcoming.

The trade caught him off guard, especially as discussions about his future had been circulating at the combine. Returning to his home region, McDuffie noted his ties to Southern California, including his time at St. John Bosco High School and his previous work with Rams defensive backs coach Jimmy Lake at Washington. Talks with Lake and head coach Sean McVay eased his transition, and he praised the Rams’ young, hungry roster and their focus on player recovery and team bonding.

The Rams also offered him the long-term extension he expected in Kansas City, placing him in a defense with championship aspirations. McDuffie concluded that the unexpected move revived his confidence and excitement for the upcoming season.
