Trump backs 26-year-old nephew-in-law in Wisconsin House primary

Michael Alfonso, a 26-year-old newcomer, is vying for the Wisconsin 7th District House seat once held by his father-in-law, former Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. Trump has issued a “Complete and Total Endorsement,” labeling Alfonso a “young ‘STAR’,” and will appear in a tele-rally two days before the primary. Duffy’s campaign committee moved $1 million to a super PAC backing Alfonso, and the race has attracted donations from Delta Air Lines PAC, Southwest Airlines PAC and the U.S. Travel Association PAC, unusual for a rural district.

Alfonso’s résumé is vague; he says he works part-time as a church accountant, yet the church lists no employee, and his website mentions construction work and a stint producing The Dan Bongino Show in Florida. His mother-in-law, Fox & Friends host Rachel Campos Duffy, actively promotes his candidacy, while GOP leaders in the county accuse him of minimal life experience and being propelled by a “machine.” The primary is expected to determine the eventual winner in this heavily Republican district.
