Trump's Released China Memo Sparks Intelligence Community Outcry

Following Donald Trump's televised address about alleged election fraud, the White House released a three-page declassified file that alleges China sought to prevent the incumbent president’s re-election. The memo, labeled “Sensitive PRC Reporting from 2018-2020,” was among 58 documents made public. Intelligence specialists and Democratic members of Congress have raised doubts about the paper’s provenance, noting that the author’s name and date are redacted and that its style diverges from standard CIA analysis.

Six former CIA and intelligence officials have formally requested answers from both the agency and the White House, warning that the memo appears tailored to support the president’s claims. Steven Cash of The Steady State and former CIA analyst Julia Curlee have both pointed to anomalies in format and lack of analytical context. A CIA spokesperson said the agency worked closely with the President’s Government Transparency Task Force and that senior career officials were involved in the release.
