During a FOX5 1-ON-1 interview hosted by Tom Durian, Donald Trump asserted that discussions with Iran were proceeding positively, describing them as “working out quite well.” He noted that a potential agreement to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz was close at hand, even as the Iran war entered its sixth month without a definitive end. Trump emphasized his intention not to pursue total destruction, framing the talks as a path away from further killing.

The remarks came amid criticism from human-rights experts over his earlier threats to strike civilian infrastructure, which could violate the 1949 Geneva Conventions. Iran responded by warning that any U.S. action against civilian targets would prompt attacks on critical regional infrastructure. The conflict, which began on February 28 with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, has resulted in thousands of deaths and massive displacement across the region.
