Twin Falls In-N-Out Drive-Thru Shooting Leaves Three Dead, Motive Still Unknown

On July 24, a newly opened In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, became the scene of a mass shooting when 24-year-old Chad Williams approached the drive-thru and shot employee Ashley Garibay. He then moved to a parked car, killing customer Christopher Claunch and wounding former Twin Falls police officer Austin James Scott, who tried to intervene. After his handgun jammed, Williams retrieved a rifle and resumed firing, prompting bystander Lane Koehn and other citizens to return fire, which eventually drove him away.

The shooter then shot himself before police could reach him, leaving three dead and seven injured. Investigators have confirmed Williams acted alone and that his family is assisting the probe, but they have offered no explanation for his actions. Williams attended the College of Southern Idaho in 2022-23, was removed from a student-government post in February 2023, and was described by a former dorm mate as an introvert with no obvious warning signs. Chief Matthew Hicks hinted that additional details are being withheld to protect the investigation.
