Two Detroit Lions rookies leave camp practice early for injury evaluations

Sunday’s Detroit Lions training camp saw rookie defensive end Derrick Moore depart early after indicating a groin problem, and undrafted tight end Miles Kitselman leave because of a leg complaint, prompting immediate medical assessments. Moore, the No. 44 overall pick from Michigan who posted 30 tackles and 10 sacks last season, was acquired by the Lions via a trade with the New York Jets. Kitselman, a 6-foot-5, 251-pound tight end signed as an undrafted free agent, recorded 50 receptions for 572 yards in college, including a solid final season at Tennessee.

The practice also featured the return of defensive back Christian Izien and left guard Christian Mahogany from the non-football injury list, while other players such as Ben Bartch, Payton Turner, and rookie offensive tackle Blake Miller saw limited or no full-team reps. The injuries were the primary news from the session, highlighting early health concerns for the Lions’ new additions.
