Two fatal hit-and-runs in NYC early Saturday involve postal truck and BMW

Police are searching for the drivers of a USPS mail truck and a white BMW that each struck a man who later died, in separate early-morning incidents in Manhattan and the Bronx.

In the early hours of Saturday, two separate hit-and-run incidents resulted in fatalities in New York City. At approximately 5:30 a.m., a 66-year-old man crossing Ninth Avenue mid-block near West 55th Street in Midtown was struck by a United States Postal Service mail truck that did not stop; he was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Earlier, around 3:55 a.m., a man in his late 50s who had been assaulted earlier was lying on the street near College Avenue and East 166th Street in the Morrisania section of the Bronx when a white BMW SUV ran him over and then fled.

The victim was subsequently hit a second time by a NYPD police car, whose driver, traveling at about 12 mph, stopped immediately and rendered aid before the victim was taken to a hospital, where he died. Investigators are still seeking the drivers of both the USPS truck and the BMW. The police car was not pursuing the BMW and was not responsible for the fatality.
