U.S. Army conducts first sea trial of GPS-jamming 'Hammer of the Gods' system
The Army carried out its inaugural maritime test of the Hammer of the Gods jammer, a portable system that disrupts navigation signals to degrade enemy precision weapons.
During the Project Convergence Capstone 6 experiment in mid-July, the U.S. Army successfully deployed, operated and recovered a maritime version of its Hammer of the Gods counter-PNT system in waters off the West Coast. The portable jammer targets GPS and other positioning, navigation and timing signals, sharply reducing the accuracy of enemy long-range artillery, guided missiles and cruise missiles. By disrupting these signals, the system forces hostile weapons to miss or delay their intended targets.
It also establishes a hardened communications mesh that allows U.S. forces to maintain command, control and coordination even under intense electronic interference. The test integrated capabilities from the Army, Navy, Space Force, U.S. Space Forces Pacific, Naval Base San Diego and the Army Space and Missile Defense Command.
Why it matters
The test shows the U.S. can impair enemy precision weapons and keep its own forces connected in contested electronic environments.
