Ugandan football captain David Owori killed in Kampala street robbery

David Owori, captain of SC Villa and Uganda Cranes midfielder, was fatally attacked by suspected thieves near his home in Kampala.

David Owori, a 27-year-old right-back and midfielder who led SC Villa and represented the Uganda Cranes, was attacked by a group of assailants near his Makindye residence in Kampala. Witnesses said the attackers struck him with paving stones before stealing his belongings and fleeing. He was rushed to a nearby clinic, then moved to a private facility, but succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

SC Villa described him as a leader and friend, and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations called him an inspiration on and off the pitch. Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala confirmed that the crime scene has been documented and investigators are pursuing leads. Parliament observed a minute of silence and urged a rapid investigation, as public anger over Kampala’s violent crime grows.
