UK expands Global Talent visa to attract scientists for clean energy, AI and life-science firms

On Aug 6 the United Kingdom revealed plans to broaden its Global Talent visa, allowing over 100 of the nation’s most innovative firms - among them AstraZeneca and Jaguar Land Rover - to bring in scientists, researchers and engineers more easily. The move is presented as a catalyst for growth in clean-energy, life-sciences and AI, aligning with a wider strategy to re-industrialise the country. Industry groups had complained that steep visa costs and an inflexible immigration system were putting the UK at a disadvantage.
The revised route, once limited chiefly to universities and research institutes, will now serve research-intensive businesses. In addition, the government intends to extend another visa programme that supports companies developing critical technologies like quantum computing and engineering biology.
