UK Suppresses Military Climate Report as Europe Endures Record Wildfires

Caroline Lucas accused the Labour government of repeatedly concealing a high-level military and intelligence analysis that warns of catastrophic ecosystem collapse threatening the United Kingdom’s security and food system in as little as five years. The report, partially released by a journalist at one outlet, describes severe food shortages, price inflation, migration pressures and potential conflict arising from climate-driven environmental breakdown.

Simultaneously, massive wildfires across France and Spain have displaced hundreds of thousands, prompting Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to label them a symptom of the “climate emergency” and to urge a bipartisan state pact on climate action. Europe’s recent heatwave has already slashed grain harvests, with France’s maize output at a half-century low and nine million tonnes of grain lost continent-wide, jeopardising UK food imports.

Scientists also warned that continued deforestation could push the Amazon toward a savannah state, amplifying global climate instability. Critics say aides to former Labour leader Keir Starmer blocked full publication of the report to avoid attacks from the climate-skeptical Reform UK Party, while UK media largely downplay the climate link to the fires. New prime minister Andy Burnham has yet to address the concealed findings, though he expressed openness to increased North Sea oil and gas drilling.
