Ukrainian drone strike kills child and wounds two near Belgorod playground
A Ukrainian drone hit an area next to a playground in Printsevka, Belgorod region, killing a 13-year-old girl and injuring two younger girls.
On Sunday, a Ukrainian-operated drone struck close to a playground in the village of Printsevka, located in Russia's Belgorod border region, killing a 13-year-old girl and wounding two other girls, aged seven and nine, who are receiving treatment. Acting regional governor Alexander Shavayev announced the casualties via Telegram, noting that medics could not save the teenager despite serious injuries. Maria Lvova-Belova, Russia's commissioner for children's rights, described the incident as another inhumane terrorist act by the Kyiv regime.
Ukraine's defence ministry did not respond to requests for comment. The attack adds to a series of civilian-targeted strikes in the war, recalling a 2025 Russian missile barrage that hit a playground in Kryvyi Rih, killing eleven adults and nine children.
Why it matters
The strike highlights the ongoing civilian toll of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and raises concerns over attacks on children.
