USS Minnesota Returns to Guam After First Forward-Deployed Virginia-Class Patrol

USS Minnesota (SSN-783) arrived back at Naval Base Guam this week, marking the conclusion of its first forward-deployed patrol as the Navy’s inaugural Virginia-class fast-attack submarine stationed overseas. The deployment included participation in the Valiant Shield 2026 exercise, as well as port calls in Okinawa and Sasebo, Japan, demonstrating the ability to project undersea power across the region. Crew members earned twenty-two submarine warfare pins, a testament to their proficiency in submarine systems and missions.

Senior officers commended the sailors for their discipline and teamwork, noting the experience will inform future operations. The forward-deployment concept places the submarine permanently at Guam, enhancing readiness in the Indo-Pacific and complementing other nuclear-powered subs stationed there.
