Utah Valley University pulls out of planned memorial for Charlie Kirk anniversary

Utah Valley University announced it would no longer co-host a September 10 ceremony with Turning Point USA to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Charlie Kirk's death. The university cited the need for campus closure on that day to provide space for reflection, service and connection, and redirected the community toward a Day of Caring volunteer event organized with United Way of Utah County. Turning Point USA is reportedly searching for a new location on short notice and expressed frustration over the sudden change.

The university had previously held a vigil after the September 2025 assassination, and earlier this year had removed author Sharon McMahon as commencement speaker after a controversial social-media post. UVU, Turning Point USA and state Sen. Dan McCay did not immediately reply to inquiries.
